"Battōtai" (抜刀隊, Drawn-Sword Regiment) is a Japanese gunka composed by Charles Leroux with lyrics by Toyama Masakazu in 1877. Upon the request of the Japanese government, Leroux adapted it along with another gunka, "Fusōka" (Song of Fusang), into the military march Japanese Army March [] in 1912.
Battōtai (抜刀隊, Drawn-Sword Regiment) were a special police squad formed in Japan by the Meiji government in 1877 during the Satsuma Rebellion. [1] [2] The detachment was armed with Japanese swords. The members of Battotai defeated the rebels in the Battle of Tabaruzaka.
It was the second in the BBC Sound Effects series to be credited to the Workshop. It featured sounds from popular television series Doctor Who (all from Season 18 ) and Blake's 7 , as well as effects for the first series of the radio versions of Douglas Adams ' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and James Follett 's Earthsearch .
