Groupe Fnac Darty, formerly Groupe Fnac S.A., is a multinational retail company headquartered in Ivry-sur-Seine, France. It took its current name after acquiring Darty plc (formerly Kesa Electricals plc and Darty Limited ) in 2016.
Fnac was founded by André Essel and Max Théret in 1954. [1] Its headquarters is located in Le Flavia in Ivry-sur-Seine near Paris. Its name is an abbreviation of Fédération Nationale d’Achats des Cadres ("National Purchasing Federation for Cadres"). It merged with Darty in 2016 to become Groupe Fnac Darty.
The Fnac Darty affiliation caused conflict with MediaMarkt co-founder Erich Kellerhals. [12] There was a controversy between Ceconomy and Convergenta over the company's strategy and board appointments, [ 13 ] which ended in 2020.
In March 2016, Darty announced it had agreed to be purchased by Steinhoff for £673 million, through Conforama subsidiary.
