Golden Pond was a town in western Trigg County, Kentucky, United States. It is now the site of the headquarters of Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, 11 miles (18 km) west-southwest of Cadiz. Golden Pond was established in the 19th century and became known for its moonshining activity during the Prohibition era.
Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area is a United States 171,280-acre national recreation area (69,310 ha) in Kentucky and Tennessee between Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake. It was designated as a national recreation area in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy and developed using funds appropriated during the Johnson administration .
After passing the Golden Pond Visitor Center and Planetarium, the Trace has a freeway-style diamond interchange junction with the co-signed four-lane U.S. Route 68 and Kentucky Route 80. US 68/KY 80 was formerly accessed from The Trace via an access road near the visitor center and planetarium.
