Hello. I had Hammertoe surgery 4 weeks ago on both feet, 6 toes in total and I thought I would share my experience as I had so many questions and needed more information and "googled" obsessively to find out more - so here is my experience.
Simona I'm at the exact same place in my recovery, 6 weeks from bunion, hammertoe and tailors bunion surgery Oct 30, 2019. Its very frustrating to still be so swollen. I was looking forward to my hammertoe pin removal and clearance to begin weight bearing but its just such a battle of swelling and pain.
On Feb. 13, 2018 (1 week & 5 days after surgery) I had the first (post-surgery) cast removed and the stitches taken out from the hammer toe (the bunion stitches were self-dissolving so they were still there) with more tape added to the hammer toe incision and a fiberglass cast put on. The pin in the hammer toe was left in for 4 more weeks.
I had hammertoe surgery on JAN 21 . The pins were removed on February 19 . I am having more difficulty walking & in more pain after the pin removal than the 2nd day after surgery. Toes are very swollen & hurt if they are moved at all. Anyone else having the same? 0 likes, 12 replies
I am 3 months post surgery. I have had the same procedure, bunion & hammertoe and a torn liagment. I also have a lot of scar tissue build on the ball of my foot beneath the hammertoe. My range of motion for my big toe is not good. I have heard that some people have a manipulation done to help the toe start moving properly.
All went very well. The severe pain I was warned to expect following the op was not severe. I can best describe it as discomfort and there was throbbing when the foot was down. My advice to anyone considering this surgery is to go ahead. I had a severe bunion and hammer 2nd toe and was in no doubt that without surgery things wouldn't improve.
My consultant told me that ifthe hammertoe isn't corrected sufficiently it can just flop downwards and so the preferred option is to prevent this by fusing the bones in the toe. But, ou haven't had a hammertoe done. Anyway back to the bunion toe and the elevation ad swelling. It will improve. Well, mine has And I'm now almost 7 months post surgery.
11 days ago I had foot surgery done on my left foot. I had right foot done two years ago. I had hammertoe on second,third and fourth toes. Also I had a bunion and they fused my big toe because of arthritis.. Surgery went well. I have the big boot and have to stay off my foot. Problem: I get sharp pain in my foot.
The pin in the hammertoe came out after 6 weeks and the toe was completely numb. I am now almost 4 months since surgery and there is still a bit of residual numbness in both the big toe and former hammertoe. Plus the former hammer toe is quite stiff.
