Angers (French: ⓘ, UK: / ˈ ɒ̃ ʒ eɪ /, US: / ɒ̃ ˈ ʒ eɪ, ˈ æ n dʒ ər z /; [4] [5] [6]) is a city in western France, about 300 km (190 mi) southwest of Paris. It is the prefecture of the Maine-et-Loire department and was the capital of the province of Anjou until the French Revolution .

The Hôtel de Ville (French pronunciation: [otɛl də vil], City Hall) is a municipal building in Angers, Maine-et-Loire, west France, standing on the Boulevard Résistance et Déportation. It has been included on the Inventaire général des monuments by the French Ministry of Culture since 1981.
The Communauté urbaine Angers Loire Métropole is the communauté urbaine, an intercommunal structure, centred on the city of Angers. It is located in the Maine-et-Loire department, in the Pays de la Loire region, western France. The arrondissement of Angers is an arrondissement of France in the Maine-et-Loire department in the Pays de la Loire region. It has 66 communes . [ 2 ] Its population is 394,646 (2021), and its area is 1,753.4 km 2 (677.0 sq mi).

It became known as the University of Angers in 1337 and was the fifth largest university in France at the time. The university existed until 1793 when all universities in France were closed. Nearly 2 centuries later, the university was reestablished in 1971 after a regrouping of several preexisting higher education establishments.
