Currently, when you turn on dark mode in one tab, any other open wikipedia tabs will continue to be in light mode (and vice-versa). We can fix this by using storage events. I see we're currently saving the state only to sessionStorage (not persisted across tabs) – we'd need to use localStorage instead.
