Kitchiwani is a portmanteau of "Kitchino" and "Shawani", which mean South and West Wind. Kitchiwani, often called Kitchi, is the only unit in camp that has both tents and cabins. The cabins are rustic, two-sided cabins with six bunks on each side. The tents are platform tents which sleep eight campers in cots with mattresses.

The Frog Creek Cabin, in Yosemite National Park, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. [1] It is a one-story frame cabin, about 14 by 28 feet (4.3 m × 8.5 m) in plan, with a small screened porch, about 13 by 4 feet (4.0 m × 1.2 m) extending. It is National Park Service Rustic in style. The Lee Creek Snowshoe Cabin was built in Glacier National Park in 1925–27 by Austin Swikert as a shelter for winter hikers. The log structure consists of a single room with wood floor, unfinished walls and roof. A trap door in the floor provides access to a small cellar food cache. There is a woodstove with metal chimney. The cabin, a roughly square log structure with a gable roof, stands near the northern edge of the cleared area. It has a screened porch on the west side and a shed-roof woodshed to the north. Its interior is divided into a living area occupying the southern half, with the northern part taken up by a kitchen, bath, and two small bedrooms.
Chief of these relocated structures were the former Lee Manges cabin, built about 1925 and moved to the site to become the ranger station, and the Crandall Photo Studio, built around 1925-26 and later moved to the site. In the 1930s the Park Service added rustic public toilet facilities, called "comfort stations."
