Abkhazia, [a] [b] officially the Republic of Abkhazia, [c] is a partially recognised state in the South Caucasus, on the eastern coast of the Black Sea, at the intersection of Eastern Europe and West Asia. Asia and Europe are considered separate continents for historical reasons; the division between the two goes back to the early Greek geographers.
