The 2023–24 season was Morecambe's 100th season since formation, their 17th consecutive season in the Football League, and their first season back in League Two, the fourth tier of English football. This followed relegation from League One during the previous season. They also competed in the FA Cup, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy.
On 12 June, Morecambe announced their initial pre-season schedule, with matches against Kendal Town, Longridge Town, Burscough, Blackburn Rovers and Southport. [2] Three weeks later, a final pre-season fixture was confirmed, against Burton Albion .

On 23 January 2025, Morecambe - 23rd in League Two and five points from safety - insisted the club was "not in immediate jeopardy" despite having no proof of funds for the rest of the season and being unable to sign players in the transfer window. Morecambe were placed into pre-determined (to minimise travel) Northern Group A with League Two sides Carlisle United and Hartlepool United at 15:00 BST on 23 June 2021. At 16:30 the following day, live on Sky Sports , they were joined by Everton U23 , Anton Ferdinand making the draw. [ 14 ]
