It was a collaboration between Indiana University and Purdue University that offered undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees from both universities.
The building was named in honor of Maynard K. Hine, Dean of the IU School of Dentistry from 1945 to 1968. In 1969, Hine became the first Chancellor of IUPUI, which he held until 1973. [19] Hine was instrumental in the innovation of Dental education at IUPUI and the early expansion of the Indianapolis campus.
The SIU School of Dental Medicine was established in 1972 to provide a source of dentists in the southern half of Illinois. [5]Its campus was one of two residential centers of SIUE from 1957 until the opening of the Edwardsville campus in 1965 and saw only limited use from 1965 to 1972.
