The McKeesport Area School District operates two elementary schools; Francis McClure and Twin Rivers, one middle school; Founder's Hall and one high school; the McKeesport Area High School. The district also operates the McKeesport Area Technology Center, which provides career and technical education programs to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students.
From 1984 until now, it has been known as McKeesport Area High School. The high school became a Grade 9-12 building with the start of the 1979-1980 school year. In 2003-2004, new additions to the high school building provided room for the five remaining vocational/technical classes that were previously housed at North Hall.
Serra Catholic is accredited through the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. [5] In addition, in September 2012, the school became a recipient of the Catholic High School Honor Roll, by the Cardinal Newman Society. [6] As such, Serra is listed as one of the Top 50 Catholic High Schools in the United States. [7]

McKeesport, then part of Versailles Township, began to grow in 1830 when mining of the large deposits of bituminous coal in the region began. The first schoolhouse was built in 1832, with James E.
