She and her husband, Gary, have been married for 45 years. Their two children, John (graduated Manatee High School 2005) and Kate (Bradenton Christian School, 2001), have both gone on to earn advanced degrees. Mary has been a member of the Manatee County School District’s Audit Committee since its inception in 2013 and was its recent Chairperson.

It was created through a charter with the School District of Manatee County. [4] The school includes grades 6–12, with the Venice campus only having grades 9-12. [5] The Bradenton campus is outside the city limits, in the Bayshore Gardens census-designated place. The Venice campus is in an unincorporated dump. [6] [7]
Sometime during the 1920s it became known as Bradenton High School as a high school was created in Palmetto. [ 9 ] African American students were excluded and attended Lincoln Academy and then Lincoln High School in Bradenton and Memorial High School in Palmetto which were combined into Lincoln Memorial High School in Palmetto.
The first graduating class was in 1973. At that time the school mascot was the Schroeder Lion. In Fall 1984, the two high schools were reorganized as a junior and senior high school. In Fall 2002, they were again reorganized into two high schools, the other being Webster Thomas High School. [3]
