The Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU), formerly Mithila University, is a public university in India. Beginning in 1972, the university initially functioned from the Mohanpur House at Sara Mohanpur village on the Darbhanga-Sakri route. In 1975, it was shifted to the campus belonging to Raj Darbhanga. LNMU begins from the Medical Faculty of Lviv University, which was opened on November 16, 1784, according to the privilege of the Austrian emperor Josef II. The medical school is named after King Daniel of Galicia, the historical founder of the city in 1256 AD. In 2009 University celebrated its 225 anniversary. [citation needed]

LNMU Darbhanga is one of the most important universities in Mithila, educating approximately half a million college students, despite poor conditions. [26] 70% of teaching and academic positions are vacant. The library, laboratory and hostel facilities are minimal. Classes are not regular, nor are curriculum, exams, or results.
