When Mizoram was a district under Assam it operated under a system of subdivisions. The district was halved into Aizawl and Lunglei. Districts of Union Territory of Mizoram before the North-East Reorganization Act. Before the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971 Lunglei was also composed of a Pawi-Lakher Subdivision based on councils.
