Hallgrímskirkja (Icelandic pronunciation: [ˈhatl̥ˌkrimsˌcʰɪr̥ca], Church of Hallgrímur) is a Lutheran (Church of Iceland) parish church in Reykjavík, Iceland.At 74.5 metres (244 ft) tall, it is the largest church in Iceland and among the tallest structures in the country. [1]
The Henderson County Courthouse, built in 1913, is an historic 3-story redbrick Classical Revival style courthouse building with full basement located at 100 East Tyler Street in Athens, Texas. The courthouse has been designated as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark since 2002.
Hallgrimskirkja towers over the center of Reykjavik, and its 73-meter high tower provides a wonderful view over the entire city. Building work started in 1945, and the church was finally consecrated on October 26, 1986. The state architect, Guðjónn Samúelsson (1887-1950) designed the church. He drew richly on Icelandic traditions and materials.
The church was consecrated on 28 July 1957 and is dedicated to Hallgrímur Pétursson (1614–1674), who was the pastor of the local parish between 1651 and 1669. [ 3 ] Icelandic State Architect Guðjón Samúelsson (1887–1950) was the first to draw a model of the church and it was according to his design that the foundations were cast.
