In 2009, a 59-year-old tourist suffered fatal injuries at Discovery Cove when he cut his toe on some coral as he was swimming with fish. The victim was a hemophiliac who was diagnosed with organ failure and septic shock after the initial injury. Doctors amputated both of the man's legs in an attempt to prevent blood-borne infections.
