The school was the 43rd Jesuit High School to be established in the United States. Though it was not finally established until 1956, the process of founding a Jesuit High School in Portland began in 1907, when property was purchased by the parish of St. Ignatius and set aside for a future High School.

Born in Portland, Oregon, Michaelson attended Jesuit High School in Beaverton, where he graduated in 2000. As a junior, alongside Mike Dunleavy Jr., Michaelson averaged 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. He was named All-Metro and State 4A Tournament second-team, as well as honorable mention All-State.

Born and raised in Portland, Wiltjer attended Jesuit High School in Beaverton, Oregon, where he led the school to three consecutive Oregon state championships. Wiltjer played in the 2011 McDonald's All-American Game in Chicago. He also played in the 2011 Nike Hoop Summit in his hometown of Portland and in the 2011 Jordan Brand Classic in Charlotte.
The LSI is a 4-day, 32-game, boy's high school basketball tournament. It features 16 teams chosen from Oregon's top schools and elite national teams through a partnership with Nike. Prime Time Sports is the owner and promoter of the tournament which was founded by co-tournament creator John McCallum.
