CUNY's history dates back to the formation of the Free Academy in 1847 by Townsend Harris. The School of Public and International Affairs was later named after Austin W. Marxe who donated $30 million to the college in 2016. Austin W. Marxe was a 1965 graduate of Baruch College and an investment banker. It was the largest donation to Baruch College and the second largest in the history of City University of New York. [2] [3] [4]
