The voltage is constant only in the sense that at full power, the voltage in the system does not depend on the number of speakers driven (as long the amplifier's maximum power is not exceeded). [2] Constant-voltage speaker systems are also commonly referred to as 25-, 70-, 70.7-, 100 or 210-volt speaker systems; distributed speaker systems; or ...
Three audio power amplifiers Rear panel of a power amplifier with 2 × 700 Watt (4 Ohm) - very similar to the topmost device in the image above - showing typical connectors for professional use: From left, symmetrical XLR-sockets for signal input, alternatively audio jack sockets, loudspeaker terminals of type Speakon (center), alternatively ...
A speaker system has to be wired to accommodate either configuration, typically with two sets of binding posts, one set for the bass and one set for the mid-highs. A single amplifier can usually power a woofer and a tweeter only through a post-amplifier crossover filter, which protects each driver from signals outside its frequency range.
For most audio applications more power is needed at low frequencies. This requires a high-power amplifier for low frequencies (e.g., 200 watts for 20–200 Hz band), lower power amplifier for the midrange (e.g., 50 watts for 200 to 1000 Hz), and even less the high end (e.g. 5 watts for 1000–20000 Hz).
The actual electric power may vary from about twice the nominal power down to less than one tenth. Loudspeaker efficiency is measured with respect to nominal power in order to emulate the situation outlined above where a low internal impedance amplifier is used with a loudspeaker. The convention is to supply one nominal watt during testing.
Damping factor with an 8 Ω load becomes more than 50 when this control is set to NORMAL. Likewise, it is 5 at MEDIUM position, and 1 at SOFT position. It enables choosing the speaker sound that one prefers. Damping is also a concern in guitar amplifiers (an application in which controlled distortion is desirable) and low damping can be better.
An active full-range loudspeaker. Powered speakers, also known as self-powered speakers and active speakers, are loudspeakers that have built-in amplifiers.Powered speakers are used in a range of settings, including in sound reinforcement systems (used at live music concerts), both for the main speakers facing the audience and the monitor speakers facing the performers; by DJs performing at ...
A paralleled configuration of two amplifier channels delivers the same power and halves dissipation. So when both configurations are combined on a set of four single-ended amplifiers, the power output is increased four-fold but the power dissipation of each constituent amplifier is not increased, and thermal issues are easier to handle.
