The Apple Festival celebrates one of Northern Michigan's most prominent fruits, the apple. It gives local farmers the chance to sell their harvest right in the downtown Charlevoix area. The festival also includes pony rides, face painting, a craft show and many more activities to draw in tourism.
The Apple Festival was founded in September 1949 with the purpose of promoting La Crescent and its apple industry. The first Apple Festival was a huge success, drawing a crowd of nearly 20,000 people, and the festival has grown in size and quality every year. All profits made from the festivals are given back to the community for various projects.
All things apple take over the town this weekend: Apple butter, apple dumplings, even an apple-themed parade that kicks off the festival at 10 a.m. Saturday, just 40 minutes from Kansas City.
