Longwood began play in 1920, [3] with official NCAA status beginning in 1976. They were in Division II from 1980 to 2004 (playing in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (CVAC) from 1995 to 2003), before transitioning to Division I from 2004 to 2007. They made the Division II Tournament in 1995, 1996, 1997, and 2003.

The arena is named after Joan Brock, a philanthropist and 1964 alum, who provided $15 million, the largest gift in Longwood University's history. [1] [10] Like Willett Hall the basketball court is named after former Longwood basketball player Jerome Kersey, officially making the hardwood Jerome Kersey Court. [11] [12]
