Bishop Jugis' motto, "Caritas Christi Urget Nos" ("The Love of Christ Urges Us On"), comes from St. Paul's second pastoral letter to the Corinthian Church, said Father Parker, and offers the inspiration for growth and formation in the faith, which the bishop wished to inspire in the people as their pastor.

Jugis in 2023 submitted his resignation as bishop of Charlotte due to a chronic kidney condition that made it impossible to continue working. During his term, the number of Catholics in the diocese doubled to over 530,000. [5] In early 2024, Jugis announced plans to build a new cathedral, citing the space limitations of the current facility.
