Sleeping Beauty is a 1959 American animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by Buena Vista Film Distribution.Based on Charles Perrault's 1697 fairy tale, the production was supervised by Clyde Geronimi, and was directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, Eric Larson, and Les Clark.
Aurora, also known as Sleeping Beauty or Briar Rose, [1] [2] [3] is a fictional character who appears in Walt Disney Productions' animated film Sleeping Beauty (1959). Originally voiced by singer Mary Costa , Aurora is the only child of King Stefan and Queen Leah.
The three good fairies arrive at the christening of King Stefan and Queen Leah's newborn daughter, Princess Aurora. They tell King Stefan and Queen Leah that each of them will give a single gift to the infant, and proceed to give their respective gifts, the first two being beauty from Flora and song from Fauna.
King Stefan is Aurora's father and Queen Leah's husband, who, though a caring and kind ruler and protective of her, can be stubborn and grumpy. During Aurora's christening, Stefan's friend and herald , King Hubert, attends the celebration, during which Aurora is betrothed to Hubert's son, Prince Phillip, so their marriage will unite their kingdoms.
Walt Disney Imagineers had originally wanted to give the restaurant a regal name, and since there are no well-known characters from "Cinderella" that met their criteria, they instead took a little dramatic license and chose the name of Sleeping Beauty's father, King Stefan. The name was changed on April 28, 1997, in order not to confuse tourists.
