The main island, Lý Sơn (Cù Lao Ré) has three prominent craters, the largest of which is Mount Thoi Loi (Thới Lới). Hydrothermal waters on Lý Sơn provide heat for the local power plant. The secondary island is known as Little Island (Cù Lao Bờ Bãi) and is also well populated.
Thoại Sơn is a rural district (huyện) of An Giang province in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. In 2019 the district had a population of 163,427. The district covers an area of 456 km². The district capital lies at Núi Sập.
