As of 2020 PUSD has 14 elementary schools (TK, K-5, K-8), three middle schools (6-8), four high schools (6-12, 9-12), and one continuation school.

Music courses include orchestra, band, and choir. Each type of music can be taken in a beginning, intermediate, or advanced class. The award-winning Marshall Fundamental Marching Band is regarded as the best music program in the Pasadena Unified School District. It won 3rd place in the 2014 SCSBOA Field Tournament Championships in the 1A division.
In 1996, the school was reconfigured from a K-12 into a K-8 and was renamed Norma Coombs Alternative School in honor of Norma S. Coombs, who died earlier that year.
