Francis Parker School, also known simply as Parker, is a college preparatory independent day school in San Diego, California, serving students from junior kindergarten through twelfth grade. Parker was founded in 1912 by Clara Sturges Johnson and William Templeton Johnson , themselves recent arrivals to the West Coast .

Polytechnic High School opened in 1897 as a "commercial branch" of the only high school at that time in the city, Los Angeles High School.As such, Polytechnic would be the third oldest high school in the city, after Abraham Lincoln High School in Lincoln Heights, (founded in 1878), and the fourth oldest in the LAUSD, after San Fernando High School., which was founded in 1896.

Parker Charter Essential School was founded in Massachusetts in 1995, in honor of Parker's contributions to the field of progressive education. An elementary school in Quincy also bears Parker's name, as does one in Rochester, New York.

Parker was one of the first charter schools created under the Massachusetts Education Reform Act of 1993. [5] Started by area parents and teachers, it received its charter on March 15, 1994, [6] opening for the 1995–1996 school year as an Essential School dedicated to the principles of the Coalition of Essential Schools.
