Ephrata Township is a township in northeastern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 10,391 at the 2020 census. [2] History.
The oldest building dates to 1808 and is the Eagle Hotel. Other notable buildings include the I.G. Sprecher & Sons Hardware (1911), Richard Heitler House (1820), J.W. Yost Liquor Store (c. 1880), Ephrata Railroad Station (1887–1889), U.S. Post Office (1937), Ephrata National Bank (1925), and Grant and Wenger Feed Mill (1924).
Ephrata (/ ˈ ɛ f r ə t ə / EF-rə-tə; Pennsylvania German: Effridaa) is a borough in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States.It is located 42 miles (68 km) east of Harrisburg and about 60 miles (97 km) west-northwest of Philadelphia and is named after Ephrath, the former name for current-day Bethlehem. The township boundary follows North Line Road and South Line Road, which crosses Main Street at the center of town. Stevens is bordered to the north by the borough of Denver and to the south by Ephrata Township. The borough of Ephrata is 3 miles (5 km) to the southwest, and Lancaster, the county seat, is 16 miles (26 km) southwest of Stevens.
PA 272 leads northeast 4 miles (6 km) to Adamstown and southwest the same distance to Ephrata. U.S. Route 222, a four-lane expressway, passes through the south side of the Reamstown CDP, but the closest access is 2 miles (3 km) to the northeast, from Colonel Howard Boulevard, which also provides access to the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Since the founding of the new Ephrata Community Hospital, the Mountain Springs facility fell into considerable disrepair, sprouting local legends and becoming known as the "haunted house" among local children. The contents of the hotel were sold at an on-site auction in 1991.
