The Marietta Historic District is a historic district in Marietta, Ohio, United States that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Among the buildings in the district are ones dating back to 1788, [ 1 ] the year in which Marietta was founded as the first white settlement in what is now Ohio. [ 2 ]
Marietta is represented by Republican Kevin Ritter (District 94) [47] and Republican Don Jones (District 95) [48] in the Ohio House of Representatives, and by Republican Brian Chavez (District 30) in the Ohio Senate. [49] Marietta falls within Ohio's 6th congressional district, which is currently represented by Republican Michael Rulli.
The Ohio Company Land Office is one of the original buildings of the city of Marietta, Ohio, United States. The Office is listed individually in the National Register of Historic Places and as a contributing property to the Marietta Historic District. The Land Office was built after Ohio Company of Associates landed at Marietta in 1788.

The Washington County Courthouse is located at 205 Putnam Street in Marietta, Ohio. The courthouse is constructed of rusticated stone blocks for the foundation with smooth blocks rising to the roofline. The courthouse is the third for the county.
West Virginia lies across the Ohio River to the south: Pleasants County in the far southeast, and Wood County otherwise. Two populated places are located along the Ohio River in Washington Township: most of the city of Marietta, the county seat of Washington County, in the northwest; and the unincorporated community of Reno, in the south.
