6061 is an alloy used in the production of extrusions—long constant–cross-section structural shapes produced by pushing metal through a shaped die. Cold and Hot Stamping. 6061 sheet in the T4 condition can be formed with limited ductility in the cold state.

The four most common aluminium grades available as sheet metal are 1100-H14, 3003-H14, 5052-H32, and 6061-T6. [ 5 ] [ 7 ] Grade 1100-H14 is commercially pure aluminium, highly chemical and weather resistant.

[71] Engine blocks and crankcases are often cast made of aluminium alloys. The most popular aluminium alloys used for cylinder blocks are A356, 319 and to a minor extent 242.
Aluminium-silicon alloys typically contain 3% to 25% silicon content. [1] Casting is the primary use of aluminum-silicon alloys, but they can also be utilized in rapid solidification processes and powder metallurgy. Alloys used by powder metallurgy, rather than casting, may contain even more silicon, up to 50%. [1]
