The Illinois community college system has a three-tier governance system. Each community college district has a locally elected board of trustees, with the exception of City Colleges of Chicago, whose local board is appointed by the mayor of Chicago. The Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) is the state coordinating board for community colleges.
Students were tested in science in grades 4 and 7. The writing portion of the test was suspended in 2011 due to lack of funding. The Illinois State Achievement Test reported out Lexile measures for students in grades 3–8. [2] A Lexile measure can be used to match readers with targeted text and monitor growth in reading ability.

Incoming freshmen must take a placement test, which is used along with 7th and 8th grade transcripts to determine placement in classes.

Indian Prairie School District 204 (abbreviated IPSD) serves roughly 26,000 students from the Illinois communities of Aurora, Bolingbrook, Plainfield and Naperville, in DuPage and Will counties.
