The English Football League One, known as Sky Bet League One for sponsorship purposes or simply League One is a professional football league in England. EFL One is the second-highest division of the English Football League and the third-tier overall in the English football league system, after the Premier League and the EFL Championship and is contested by 24 clubs.
The 2024–25 EFL League One, (referred to as the Sky Bet League One due to sponsorship reasons), is the 21st season of the EFL League One under its current title, and the 33rd season under its current league division format. The season began on 9 August 2024, and will end in May 2025.
In 1993, the Premier League was formed, [22] a move which caused the third-tier league to be renamed as the Second Division. [23] In 2004, the Second Division was re-branded as Football League One, [24] before the League's adoption of English Football League (EFL) led to a 2016 renaming as the EFL League One. [25]
