The land acquisition proposition was made by Representative Pierce of Rockford, Illinois, near the park, after whom the most popular fishing spot in the park known as Pierce Lake. The proposition was made in 1955 and the park was officially in existence two years later in 1957 on October 25.

Fingerlings are varieties that naturally grow small and narrow. They are fully mature when harvested and are not to be confused with new potatoes. Popular fingerling potatoes include the yellow-skinned Russian Banana, [1] [2] the pink-skinned, yellow fleshed French Fingerling, [3] [4] the Purple Peruvian, [5] [6] and the Swedish Peanut Fingerling.
The Landing was a steamboat stop on the Illinois River, which started in the 1830s. It was home to a warehouse, a boat yard, hotel and a grist mill. The lime kiln here is a remnant of a commercial operation that would have flourished when the steamboat stop at Griggsville Landing was operational. [2]
Its body outline resembles that of the northern pike (E. lucius). Unlike northern pike, however, the opercles and cheeks of chain pickerel are entirely scaled. [5] It may reach up to 78.7 centimetres (31.0 in) long only on rare occasions. [8] The average size for chain pickerel, however, is 24 in (61 cm) and 3 lb (1 1/2 kg).
