You get a ton of coflicting data and a lot of those free vin check websites that really just want you to buy a full report and thus pretend to have "x" amount of records available to view for y amount. I find it's best just to run the carfax as a consumer. Like others mentioned look to buy carfax reports on eBay at a steep discount.
Get the VIN and post it for sale on eBay motors. eBay will provide an AutoCheck report which is CarFax's competitor. Once you get the report cancel the auction. Be sure to set a unreasonable price so no one actually buys it.
Carfax has a used car search section, if the car shows up there you'll get access to the free carfax, it's a decent way to get the window sticker too. Reply reply Miserable_Pickle_404
Free Carfax? Anyone know how I can get a free Carfax on a vehicle? I’ve seen the Experian report and it says “accident/damage reported” but that’s all and no other details #carfax
go to vin check pro. literally free. free as can be. but it only has title history. you can use the carfax car care app to add a VIN/plate as your own car and get maintenance history. Reply reply
Carfax is a helpful tool, but it is not the be-all end-all of car history. Heck, I've seen reports where a guy bought a car with a clean report, only to be notified later that the report they bought had been updated with an accident. Carfax has to rely on reporting from insurance, police, and state DMVs for information.
Had a short stint with a Kia that I regretted, then a few years later. drove 5 hours out of state to buy a CPO S Convertible with 6k miles on it at the time. I sought it out in particular because it wasn’t a JCW but had that awesome JCW exterior body kit that came as an option. That’s the one I looked up on the carfax link u posted.
It's worth it IF all services were reported to carfax. I used 1 oil change service that didn't do it, and for 2 years I was using the new dealer that doesn't report. On carfax it looks like I took care if everything, then stopped for 2 years, then suddenly started again lol.
Or go to a dealership that you are thinking about buying a car from and mention you had a trade in. They'll run the carfax as part of their process for accessing the value. The last dealership I tried to trade a car into where the deal fell through was nice enough to let me keep the carfax.
I recently receive the free carfax report from dealer and it shocked me that it shows my car have two accident and the worst one happened in 2016 which is a moderate damage and cause airbag deployed. After that , I find the auto check report carmax gave to me back in 2019 and it said my car is no accident, no damage and no airbag deployed.
