Standard manuscript format is a formatting style for manuscripts of short stories, novels, poems and other literary works submitted by authors to publishers.Even with the advent of desktop publishing, making it possible for anyone to prepare text that appears professionally typeset, many publishers still require authors to submit manuscripts within their respective guidelines.
Every article on Wikipedia with a title in the form "Glossary of subject terms", or similar, is such a glossary, as are the glossary sections inside some articles. These are distinct from outlines, which are titled in the form "Outline of subject" and may also include definitions, but are organized as a hierarchy and use their own style of formatting not covered in this guideline.

Technical images like charts and diagrams may have captions that are much longer than other images. Prose should still be succinct, but the significance of the image should be fully explained. Any elements not included in a legend or clearly labelled should be defined in the caption.
