Downloaded latest FF - came with Yahoo too. Home page, everything was set to Yahoo. OK, went into ad ons and removed Yahoo toolbar, Yahoo Persona, and Yahoo in extensions. Rest home page to Google. Removed all search engines except Google. The very moment I search for anything in search bar, it automatically brings me to Yahoo search page.
I have two yahoo search engines appearing in the search box menu. One is Yahoo and the other is Yahoo! (with the explanation mark). It appears the Yahoo! has hijacked my browser as I am unable to remove it by using the manage search engine option.

Over the weekend, Yahoo has somehow been made my default homepage. When I go to Preferences and change it to my desired homepage, it only works for the next launch - then it reverts back to Yahoo. So I uninstalled Firefox and downloaded a new copy. Same thing, so apparently it's a moderation you have made to your browser. I do not like this.

In that searchplugins folder, simply delete the "yahoo" file. Restart Firefox and voila! no more Yahoo! I had the same problem - downloaded a free program and next thing I knew, Yahoo had taken over my Firefox search bar.
