A United Nations Volunteers initiative was proposed in a speech at Harvard University on June 13, 1968, by Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi [5] and UNV was established 1970 by the UN General Assembly. [6] ISVS became instrumental in the establishment of UNV and was itself dissolved in 1976.
