Final year students work on projects in groups or individuals according to syllabus of GTU. The project work is divided in two phases which are undertaken by students in seventh and eighth semester. Current projects undertaken by students are API development in php, using Facebook API, PHP programming and Android application development.
The management of SVCE sanctioned Rs.3,00,000 every year to carry out innovative projects for final year UG (2 Lakhs) and PG (one Lakh) students. The SVCE students' research day (SVCE Innovates) is conducted in third week of March every year to motivate and nurture innovative ideas among Students.
From 1955, the school was known as the Government Technical Institute. In August 1999, it was upgraded to a Government Technological College. In 2007, it was upgraded to the level of University. It now offers ten bachelor's degrees in engineering and architecture. The duration of the courses is 6 years.
The final year students have done excellent projects and 6 of them got sponsored by the Govt of Karnataka through Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, Bangalore. The students presented their projects for review at an engineering college in Hubli in June 2016 which was appreciated by the reviewers.
