An office chair, or desk chair, is a type of chair that is designed for use at a desk in an office. It is usually a swivel chair , with a set of wheels for mobility and adjustable height. Modern office chairs typically use a single, distinctive load bearing leg (often called a gas lift ), which is positioned underneath the chair seat.
Old chairs, tables, bookcases and even porcelain sets have been selling for thousands. One sold for just under $65,000. The popularity of old Ikea pieces is also due to their familiarity.
Initially named "Poem," it was renamed to "Poäng" in 1992, and the seat part was changed from tubular steel to wood, which allowed the chair to be flat-packed and led to a price reduction of 21%. The company claims that this helps reduce costs and use of packaging by not shipping air; the volume of a bookcase, for example, is considerably less if it is shipped unassembled rather than assembled.
