In 1998 following the first graduation of the Namibian Navy Pioneer officers in Brazil, the site, north of the port of Walvis Bay identified as a potential Naval Base. After the ministry of Defence bought the piece of land, construction then started of the facility in 2002.

The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) is a state owned enterprise established by an act of parliament as the national port authority of Namibia, [1] managing principally the ports of Walvis Bay and Lüderitz, as well as managing a Syncrolift dry dock facility in Walvis Bay. Namport was founded in 1994. [2] Its head office is located in Walvis Bay.
