Manado (Indonesian pronunciation:, Tombulu: Wenang) is the capital city of the Indonesian province of North Sulawesi.It is the second largest city in Sulawesi after Makassar, with the 2020 census giving a population of 451,916, [3] and the official estimates for mid 2023 showing 458,582 inhabitants (229,982 males and 228,600 females), [1] distributed over a land area of 157.26 km 2. One of the school buildings located at Manado Tua. Manado Tua is a volcanic island in the Celebes Sea off the northeast coast of Sulawesi. The island is located in Bunaken National Park. [1] The name Manado comes from manadou or wanazou meaning "on the far coast" or "in the distance," which is derived from Minahasan languages.
Bunaken National Park extends over an area of 890.65 km 2 of which only 3% is terrestrial, including Bunaken Island, as well as the islands of Manado Tua, Mantehage, Nain and Siladen. The waters of Bunaken National Marine Park are up to 1,566 m deep in Manado Bay , with temperatures ranging between 27 and 29 °C.
Manado Tua is an inactive volcano formed in a classical cone shape and rising over 600 m above sea level, the highest elevation in the park. Bunaken Island also has volcanic origins with a significant amount of uplifted fossil coral. Nain Island is also a dome-shaped island, 139 m (456 ft) in height.
