Leeds City South Station: west end, in 1961. The first rationalisation occurred in 1938, when two railway stations (New and Wellington) were combined to form Leeds City Station, opening on 2 May that year. This was designed by LMS architect William Henry Hamlyn. The third railway station, Leeds Central, was unaffected by the change.

Leeds New Lane was a proposed new railway station to accommodate High Speed Two rail services in West Yorkshire, England.It was planned to be constructed on a viaduct on New Lane south of Leeds city centre, the River Aire and Leeds City station [1] to which it would be connected by an elevated walkway. The station is situated next to the terminus of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, but as the station is raised high above ground level it is possible to gain access to the Dark Arches from the towpath. Developed in the 1990s and advertised as Leeds' best kept secret, the Granary Wharf shopping centre was situated underneath the Dark Arches.
