Temperature vs time plots, showing the Mpemba Effect. The Mpemba effect is the name given to the observation that a liquid (typically water) that is initially hot can freeze faster than the same liquid which begins cold, under otherwise similar conditions.
While the cold weather may deter many from going outside, others like to take advantage of the freezing temperatures and test out different science experiments. From blowing frozen bubbles to ...
Hot cognition is a hypothesis on motivated reasoning in which a person's thinking is influenced by their emotional state. Put simply, hot cognition is cognition coloured by emotion. [1] Hot cognition contrasts with cold cognition, which implies cognitive processing of information that is independent of emotional involvement. [2]
In the scientific community, there was a debate about how objects cooled and in 1461 Marliani confirmed that he had experimentally observed hot water freezing faster than cold water. In his experiment he stated that he had used four ounces of unheated water and four ounces of boiled water, which he placed in similar containers outside on a cold ...
Cold-sensitive thermoreceptors give rise to the sensations of cooling, cold and freshness. In the cornea cold receptors are thought to respond with an increase in firing rate to cooling produced by evaporation of lacrimal fluid 'tears' and thereby to elicit a blink reflex [citation needed]. Other thermoreceptors will react to opposite triggers ...

Well, if you put a cup of cold water and a cup of boiling hot water in the freezer, the hot water would raise the temperature of the whole freezer; thus they would both freeze in the same time, but the cold water will take longer than if it were in the freezer by itself.
