The baseboard management controller (BMC) provides the intelligence in the IPMI architecture. It is a specialized microcontroller embedded on the motherboard of a computer – generally a server. The BMC manages the interface between system-management software and platform hardware. BMC has its dedicated firmware and RAM.
The Shelf Managers communicate with each board and FRU in the chassis with IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) protocols running on redundant I²C buses on the Zone-1 connectors. The Base Interface is the primary Fabric on the Zone-2 connectors and allocates 4 differential pairs per Base Channel.
The final firmware version for RILOE is 2.53(A) dated 9 Mar 2004 and for RILOE II is 1.21 dated 5 July 2006. For G7 and older ProLiant 100 series servers there is a "Lights Out 100" option, which has more limited functionality. The LO100 is a traditional IPMI BMC, and does not share hardware or firmware with iLO. ProLiant 100 series servers ...
That way, a common Ethernet connection becomes shared between the computer's operating system and the integrated baseboard management controller (BMC), usually by configuring the network interface controller (NIC) to perform Remote Management Control Protocol (RMCP) ports filtering, use a separate MAC address, or to use a virtual LAN . Thus ...
NC-SI, abbreviated from network controller sideband interface, is an electrical interface and protocol defined by the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF). The NC-SI enables the connection of a baseboard management controller (BMC) to one or more network interface controllers (NICs) in a server computer system for the purpose of enabling out-of-band system management.
Management Component Transport Protocol (MCTP) is a protocol designed by the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) to support communications between different intelligent hardware components that make up a platform management subsystem, providing monitoring and control functions inside a managed computer system.
(The Center Square) – Michigan will be one of four states participating in a new Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services program. The Innovation in Behavioral Health Model will allow for ...
The MegaRAC from American Megatrends is a product line of baseboard management controller (BMC) firmware packages and formerly Service Processors providing complete Out-of-band, or Lights-out remote management of computer systems independently of the operating system status or location to troubleshoot computers and assure continuity of service.
