The Nike Air Force 1 was designed by Bruce Kilgore in 1982. [5] The name is a reference to Air Force One, the plane that carries the President of the United States. Nike Air Force 1s were ubiquitous in Harlem, New York, giving rise to the nickname "Uptowns". [6] The Air Force 1 began production in 1982 but was discontinued in 1984. [7]

[17] In 2019, Foot Locker invested $100 million (~$118 million in 2023) in GOAT, an online resale marketplace for sneakers. [18]
The Air Force One was again remodelled in a collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art, an all black version with silver laces. [2] In June 2019, a blue version was confirmed by Nike and Abloh in collaboration with the ICA museum in Boston and featured a baby-blue makeover of the shoe with a grey Nike Swoosh. [ 21 ]
Champs Sports was acquired in the 1980s by the Woolworth Corporation, then a specialty store division of the F. W. Woolworth Company.It, along with Foot Locker (which was owned by Woolworth and is now the name of the company that succeeded Woolworth), sold athletic merchandise, replacing the five and dime and department store concepts with the increasing specialty store concept.
