The Bank of Australasia is a heritage-listed former bank at 116A Brisbane Street, Ipswich, City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Reed & Barnes and built in 1878. It is also known as Council Offices, Ipswich Library, and Ipswich Visitors and Tourist Information Centre.
Ipswich (/ ˈ ɪ p s w ɪ tʃ / ⓘ) is a port town and borough in Suffolk, England.It is the county town, and largest in Suffolk, followed by Lowestoft and Bury St Edmunds, and the third-largest population centre in East Anglia, after Peterborough and Norwich.
An Ipswich Society blue plaque was installed on the Town Hall in 2016 commemorating Mary Whitmore, the first woman to be Mayor of Ipswich, in 1946. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] The council built itself a new civic centre on Civic Drive in 1970 to serve as its main offices, but continued to use the town hall for full council meetings. [ 6 ]
Ipswich Museum continues to be part of Colchester + Ipswich Museums (CIMS). CIMS has retained Collections and Learning Curators, Collections Information and Conservation Officers in Ipswich to look after Ipswich Museum, Christchurch Mansion and Ipswich Art Gallery alongside the Visitors Services team.

John Speed's 1610 map labeled the square as number 8 and is referred to as "Corne hill" The Cornhill has always been an important area throughout the town's history. It was the location of St Mildred's Church which was later used as an administrative centre.
