Milwaukee School of Engineering was founded in 1903 by Oscar Werwath and initially called the School of Engineering. Werwath's goal was to meet the needs of the workforce for the growing engineering field. Oscar Werwath (1880 [1] – March 20, 1948 [2]) was the founder and first president of the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. He is buried at Forest Home Cemetery. Born in Stallupönen, Germany on May 3, 1880, Werwath was the son of department store owner Carl and his wife, Johanna.

SMART (Students Modeling A Research Topic) Team is a science outreach program that allows high school students to work with a researcher to learn about a specific protein and construct a three-dimensional model of that protein.
