According to the 2010 census, Cedar Lake has a total area of 9.61 square miles (24.89 km 2), of which 8.22 square miles (21.29 km 2) (or 85.54%) is land and 1.39 square miles (3.60 km 2) (or 14.46%) is water. It was built in 1897, as a one-story, open air frame building supported by brick piers. The building measures 55 feet by 110 feet and has a massive gable-on-hip roof with deeply overhanging eaves.
