The arena replaced Lakeview Arena, the home of Wildcat hockey for its first twenty-three seasons. The arena contains 16 luxury suites and standing room for 400 fans.

An ice arena and the county fairgrounds are nearby. The Civic Center, which resembles a gymnasium more than an arena, features 20,000 square feet (2,000 m 2) of space and can also be used for trade shows, conventions, banquets, circuses and other events. Currently the locker rooms at the Civic Center are undergoing renovations.
The 2021–22 Michigan Tech Huskies men's ice hockey season was the 101st season of play for the program and 4th in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). They represented Michigan Technological University, played their home games at MacInnes Student Ice Arena and were coached by Joe Shawhan, in his 5th season.
The Frankenmuth Credit Union Event Center (formerly Birch Run Expo Center) was a 2,500 seat multi-purpose arena in Birch Run, Michigan. However, it was sold to Camping World in November 2020 and is now one of their largest showrooms. Prior to 2002, it was the first NHL Skate center. Due to lack of interest, it was converted into an events center.
