The Deseret Limestone, also known as the Pine Canyon Formation, [1] is a geologic formation in Utah.It was formed by the Panthalassa ocean around 340 Ma. It preserves marine fossils dating back to the Carboniferous period or Mississippian age, mostly consisting of tabulate and rugose corals, and other marine invertebrates; vertebrates are represented by conodonts.

Rock Canyon is located in the Wasatch Mountains, in east Provo, Utah, United States. [1] [ Note 1] It is popular with rock climbers and hikers (and a number of other outdoor enthusiasts of all types) due to its unique and rugged geology as well as its proximity to Brigham Young University.
The cave system is located in the Deseret Limestone, a Mississippian age limestone formed around 340 million years ago. Notably the cave cavity was formed initially by a series of faults running off of the Wasatch fault.

Deseret Peak Wilderness has about five system trails totaling approximately 19 miles (31 km). South Willow Canyon is the most popular trailhead. Access is limited on the west, where the Skull Valley Goshute Reservation is adjacent to the wilderness. The Deseret Peak Wilderness was a late addition to the Utah Wilderness Act of 1984.
