Fallingwater is situated in Stewart Township in the Laurel Highlands of southwestern Pennsylvania, United States, [4] [5] about 72 miles (116 km) southeast of Pittsburgh. The Battle of Williamsport, also known as the Battle of Hagerstown or Falling Waters, took place from July 6 to July 16, 1863, in Washington County, Maryland, as part of the Gettysburg Campaign of the American Civil War. It is not to be confused with the fighting at Hoke's Run which was also known as the Battle of Falling Waters.

Mayén's partner, Edgar Kaufmann Jr., inherited the 1936 Frank Lloyd Wright designed Fallingwater house, over Bear Run, in Stewart Township, Pennsylvania, after his father's death in 1955, continuing to use and share it as a mountain retreat until 1963. [4]
